Get into the holiday spirit with these spooky and fun Halloween cake pops! Use your favorite cake, frosting, and chocolate to customize them for your guests!
Halloween is our favorite holiday. We start getting ready long before it is socially acceptable, but it is impossible to resist. I love making fun treats for the kids, and these cake pops are always a hit with them!
You only need a couple of ingredients to make Halloween cake pops.
- Cake - You can use any type of cake you want! I liked using red velvet cake because it feels a little more spooky to me. But you can also use vanilla cake, chocolate cake, or even banana cake!
- Frosting - The frosting should complement the flavor of the cake, try something different for a sweet twist. I think strawberry frosting and brown butter frosting are perfect for just that. You can also try cream cheese frosting, chocolate frosting, or vanilla frosting.
- Chocolate - You should use chocolate bars to coat the cake pops. They melt better than chocolate chips.
Making cake pops are so easy - it's such a fun thing to do with the kids.
- Bake your cake, and allow it to cool completely.
- Crumble the cake, then mix in the frosting, a little at a time. You want just enough frosting for the cake to stick together, but not get gloopy.
- Coat a silicone popsicle mold with chocolate and place in the freezer to harden.
- Press in the cake mixture, then insert a chocolate coated popsicle stick then top the cake mixture with more chocolate and allow to harden. Gently remove.
Alternatively, if you don't want to use a popsicle mold, you can roll the cake pops into balls about 2 tablespoons big, stick in a lollipop stick, and dip the cake into the chocolate.
There are a ton of ways you can decorate the pops! Here are a couple of fund ideas that go beyond a few spooky sprinkles.
- Ghosts - Use white chocolate to coat the cake pops and use melted dark chocolate or edible marker to create a fun spooky face.
- Frankenstein - Use green-tinted chocolate and use melted chocolate piped to make the face and stitches.
- Jack O'Lanterns - Try orange-tinted chocolate and use yellow chocolate to make a fun pumpkin face!
- Hocus Pocus book - Use semi-sweet chocolate to coat the cake pops and use dark chocolate to create the design on the cake pop, plus a candy eye!
- Candy Corn - Use Orange, yellow, and white chocolate in layers to make them look like extra-large candy corn!
- Mummies - White chocolate coating with thick drizzles of white chocolate give a great mummy look. Add candy eyes to finish the look.
For the best results, store your cake pops in an airtight container kept in the refrigerator or the freezer. If you keep them in the freezer, thaw in the refrigerator for a few hours before serving.

- 1 cake recipe
- 1 - 1 ½ cup frosting
- chocolate, melted
- Crumble the cooled cake.
- Add in the frosting and mix until well-combined - aff more frosting as needed until the cake sticks together well.
- Add a thick coating of chocolate in a silicone popsicle mold. Freeze until firm. Repeat this process for the best results.
- Add a few tablespoons of the cake mix into the mold and press firmly and smooth the back. The very top edge of the chocolate should still show so when you coat the back with chocolate, it encloses the cake completely.
- Drizzle chocolate over the cake and spread it into a smooth layer. Scrape the top of the mold to remove any run-off chocolate so you get nice edges.
- Insert a popsicle stick into the mold.
- Chill in the freezer to solidify the chocolate.
- Remove and gently take the cake pop out of the mold.
- Drizzle melted chocolate over the cake molds and top with sprinkles.
- To make cake pop balls, you can roll the cake into balls that are two tablespoons big. Insert a lollipop stick with the end coated in chocolate. Dip the whole thing in chocolate and allow the chocolate to solidify.
- Store cake pops in the freezer or refrigerator in an airtight container.
