¼cupunsalted butter
6eggs
1cupwhole milk
1cupheavy cream
⅓cuppure maple syrup
1tablespoonground cinnamon
¼teaspoonground nutmeg
¼teaspoonground ginger
¼teaspoonsea salt
2teaspoonsvanilla extract
2small Granny Smith applesthinly sliced
Instructions
Heat the butter in a small saucepan until it browns and smells nutty, set aside to cool down.
Whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, maple syrup, spices salt, and vanilla together until well-combined.
Drizzle in the cooled butter and stir to mix well.
Layer the baguette slices and apple slices in a greased 9 x 13 baking pan.
Pour the egg mixture over the bread and apples. Leave it to soak for at least 20 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator.
Preheat the oven to 350F.
Bake, covered for 30 minutes. Uncover, and continue to bake for another 10 - 15 minutes. Top with powdered sugar to serve.
Notes
This recipe works best when you allow the bread to fully soak in the custard mixture. Press down on the bread to ensure the top layer gets soaked as well.
