Have a hot chocolate mug cake whenever the mood strikes with this hot chocolate mug cake mix! So simple to throw together so you can scoop and have a mug cake in less than two minutes from start to finish!
The holidays can get a little hectic around here. It is my busiest time of year, as it is for millions of others. Sometimes, it isn't always possible to make sure you get through your entire list even once. Let alone check it twice. Santa, you've got my utmost respect.
So I try to simplify my life by making a lot of my gifts - usually in the form of food. It's affordable, has a personal touch, but allows me to also make enough in case I somehow missed someone on the list. (Unfortunate, but we are only human, after all!). This hot chocolate mug cake mix is one I've been making for a few years, to the point where I have people who specifically request they get one each year!
The hot chocolate mug cake mix couldn't be simpler. I added all the dry ingredients into a jar and whisked them all together. Now all the recipient has to do is add a bit of milk and oil, then microwave for a minute on full power.
Now, the recipe for the finished hot chocolate mug cake is what I consider to be a small mug cake.... a taste if you will. The mugs I use for this recipe are roughly 10 - 12 ounces big. The mugs are about Personally, my mugs - and my appetite - are big enough to handle double the cake, so all you need to do is double the amount of dry and wet ingredients - and add another minute to your cooking. Don't forget to grab a larger mug, too! I like to add marshmallows to the top when the cake is still really hot so it holds its shape, but gets nice and gooey. Yum!
Can You Make Mug Cake In the Oven?
Yes, you can make this hot chocolate mug cake in the oven! It's a great way to make a few mug cakes at once, and the microwave is already occupied. The mug cakes are like large cupcakes. Bake at 350 degrees F for around 15 - 18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Can You Make Mug Cake Without Baking Powder?
Yes, you can technically make the mug cake without baking powder, but the cake will be denser. If you still want some lift, replace the flour with boxed chocolate cake mix.
Can You Make Mug Cake Without Eggs?
YES!!! This hot chocolate mug cake does not require eggs at all! Eggs usually add structure and moisture to the cake, but since it is made in a mug and in small portions, you do not need the egg to make this mug cake delicious. If you want something richer, moister and more indulgent, you can add in an egg yolk.
Can You Make Mug Cake in a Bowl?
Yes. If for some reason, you cannot find a mug, you can use a microwave-safe bowl. Make sure the bowl can hold at least 10 - 12 ounces and has tall sides, otherwise you will end up with cake batter all over the bottom of your microwave.
What Kind of Hot Chocolate Should You Use?
You can use any premade powdered hot chocolate that you or your recipient likes! In this original recipe for hot chocolate mug cake, I used Swiss Miss, but I also have used Rodelle, Ghiradelli, and Target brand hot chocolate powder.
