A fun and delicious shot that tastes just like a jelly doughnut. This jelly donut shot is the perfect little drink to enjoy after a nice meal.

I will be honest, I was never much of a shot person. I usually go for a nice cocktail that I can sip on. When I first tried this jelly donut shot, however, it all changed. I actually love how pretty and fun it is, plus it tastes remarkably like a jelly donut which I love! It is great for a nice date night dinner, or even something fun to drink responsibly with friends.

What is a Jelly Donut Shot?

The name is the shot is fairly self-explanatory. It is an alcoholic shot that tastes like a jelly donut. The creamy layer of the shot mimics the sweet dough of a donut while the fruit liquor creates the flavor of the filling.

What Ingredients are in the Jelly Donut Shot?

You are in luck because the jelly donut shot is only two ingredients. The shot needs only Chambord and Bailey's.

There are variations of the shot you can also explore and experiment with. The Bailey's is often replaced with Rumchata.

You can also leave out the Chambord and replace it with another similar liqueur. A blackberry or strawberry one would really taste great here.

    How to Layer a Shot

Layering can seem very intimidating to do, but this jelly donut shot is very easy to layer that even a beginner can do it.

First, we need to determine which ingredient is thicker or heavier. If you are following the recipe and using Chambord with Bailey's, the Chambord is the heavier of the two, so it should be at the bottom.

Fill the bottom of your shot glass with the Chambord.

Next comes the Bailey's. Place a spoon into the shot glass with the tip gently against the inside of the shot glass. Slowly pour the Bailey's until it reaches near the top.

The Bailey's will naturally layer on top, and if any goes into the Chambord layer it will separate to the top layer on its own over time.

If you decide to replace the Bailey's with Rumchata, the Rumchata is the heavier alcohol and will need to be at the bottom layer.

Is it Hard to Layer This Shot?

Definitely not. If you follow my tips above, you will be fine. The layers will naturally want to separate, so even if you are a bit sloppy adding in the top layer, it will separate into a neat layer on its own. That is my favorite part about making this shot.

How to Dress Up Your Shot

If you want to do more to your shots so they are more impressive, you can add a bit of pizzazz.

Some people will wet the rims of the shot glasses and dip them in sugar. This really adds to the texture of a jelly donut.

You can also rim the shot glasses with chocolate and add sprinkles.

A quick drizzle inside the shot glass can also be a fun way to add a bit more fun to your shot.

It is my belief that the shot is quite sweet on its own, so it does not really need any extra sweetness added. If you do shoot to include a sugar rim, I'd add a small pinch of salt into the sugar before you dip the rims to help cut the sweetness just a little.

You might love my apple pie moonshine - this sweet, yet subtly spicy drink packs a punch. This strawberry champagne mojito and blackberry prosecco mojito are beautiful cocktails anyone would love trying. Blood orange margaritas and fresh fig margaritas are fruity fun drinks you'll definitely love. If you want something indulgent, you'll love this bourbon-spiked hot chocolate. For another shot, you will love these coconut lime shooters.

    • Add the Chambord to a shot glass.
    • Place a small spoon gently inside the shot glass over the Chambord and slowly pour the Bailey's until it reaches near the top.

    Notes

If you subsitute any of the ingredients, you will need to experiment to see which alcohol is heavier and therefore should be at the bottom of the shot. For instance, Rumchata usually wants to be below Chambord.
